Choose which emails you get

See which emails Writing Studio sends, and turn comment emails off or back on.

Writing Studio only emails you about comments, about papers shared with you, and about your account. You can turn off comment emails. The others are always sent.

Turn comment emails off or on

  1. Click your name at the top of the sidebar and choose Settings.
  2. Go to Notifications.
  3. Under Email, next to Comments, turn Email me about comments off or on.

It’s on by default.

Unsubscribe from a comment email

At the bottom of every comment email is a Turn off comment emails link.

  1. Click the link. A page asks “Stop emails about comments?”.
  2. Click Turn off comment emails.

You see “You won’t get comment emails any more.” To undo it, click Turn them back on on the same page, or use the switch in Settings, under Notifications. You don’t need to sign in to use the link.

If the page says “That link isn’t valid”, open the latest comment email and try its link again.

Emails you can turn off

Comment emails come when:

  • Someone mentions you in a comment.
  • Someone replies in a comment thread you’re in.
  • Someone comments on a paper you own.

Emails that are always sent

These are part of how sharing and your account work, so they can’t be turned off:

  • An invitation when someone shares a paper with you.
  • Emails about access: someone asking for access to your paper or asking to edit it, and your request being approved.
  • Sign-up codes and password emails. These come from our sign-in service.

Writing Studio doesn’t send marketing emails.

Frequently asked questions

Does Writing Studio send marketing emails?

No. The app only sends emails about comments, invitations and access to papers, and your account.

Why do I still get invites after turning off comment emails?

The switch only covers comments. Invitations to papers and emails about your account are always sent, so you never miss access to a paper or a sign-in code.

I turned comment emails off by mistake. How do I turn them back on?

Go to Settings, then Notifications, and turn on Email me about comments. If you just unsubscribed from an email link, the page also has a Turn them back on button.
