Manage your password and sign-in

To manage your password and sign-in, click your name at the top of the sidebar, choose Settings, and go to Account. Look under Signing in and Active devices.

Writing Studio accounts sign in with Google, or with an email address and password. See Create an account and sign in.

Change your password

1. Under Signing in, next to Password, click Change password.
2. Type your Current password.
3. Type a New password (at least eight characters) and type it again in Confirm new password.
4. Leave Sign out of every other device on if you think another device might know your old password. It’s on by default.
5. Click Save password.

If you see “Those two passwords are different.”, type the new password the same way in both boxes.

Add a password to a Google account

If you signed up with Google, you see No password set: “You sign in with Google. Add a password to sign in with your email as well.”

Click Set password, type a new password twice, and click Save password. You can then sign in either way.

Connect or disconnect Google

Under Signing in, the Google row shows whether Google is connected:

• Not connected: click Connect to sign in with one click instead of a password.
• Connected: it shows your Google email. Click Disconnect to stop signing in with Google.

Warning

If you only sign in with Google, set a password before you disconnect it, so you still have a way to sign in.

Sign out of other devices

Active devices lists everywhere you’re signed in, with the device, browser, rough location and when it was last active. The one you’re using is marked This device.

Click Sign out next to any other device to sign it out. Do this for a shared or lost computer.

To sign out of the device you’re using, use Log out in the account menu. See Log out.

If you get signed out

If your session ends, for example because you signed out from another device, you see “You’ve been signed out. Writing still saves here, and backs up once you sign in again.” Click Sign in again to carry on. Nothing you write in the meantime is lost.

Frequently asked questions

I signed up with Google. Can I also use a password?

Yes. In Settings under Account, click Set password. You can then sign in with your email and password as well as with Google.

How do I sign in on a computer I don't trust anymore?

You don't need to. In Settings under Account, find that device under Active devices and click Sign out. Changing your password can also sign you out of every other device.

Can I sign in with Microsoft, Apple or a passkey?

No. Writing Studio accounts sign in with Google, or with an email address and password.
