Checking your paper
Share a writing receipt
A writing receipt is a one-page record of how you wrote a paper. Download it as a PDF or share a view-only link. It never shows your paper's text.
A writing receipt is a one-page record of how you wrote a paper: where the text came from, when you worked, and which AI features you used. Download it as a PDF, or share a view-only link. It never shows your paper’s text.
It is not a payment receipt. It is a record you can show if an instructor or anyone else asks how your paper was written.
Download a receipt as a PDF
- Open the Check tab and click History at the top.
- Click Writing receipt (PDF).
- Your browser’s print sheet opens. Choose to save it as a PDF.
What a receipt shows
- The heading: the paper’s title, its word count, and the date the receipt was made.
- Where the text came from: the share typed in Writing Studio, pasted, imported from a Word file (if any), and AI text accepted.
- Writing sessions: how many sessions, over how many days, and the total time, with a table of each day’s sessions, time and words added.
- Saved versions: how many versions of the paper were saved.
- AI features used: each one and how many times, or “None.”
- AI rules for this assignment: if you set them, each kind of AI help marked allowed or not allowed.
- AI use statement: only if you said your course asks for one. See Write your AI use statement.
A note at the bottom explains what the record means. It says the receipt doesn’t record keystrokes, that text written elsewhere shows as pasted or imported, and that AI text later rewritten by hand no longer counts as AI.
What a receipt never shows
- the words of your paper
- keystrokes or your screen
- anything about your other papers
Share a receipt link
A receipt link is a view-only page with the same record as your PDF, kept by Writing Studio so anyone you send it to can check it.
- Open Check, then History.
- Click Share receipt link.
- Click Create link.
- Click Copy link, then paste it into an email or message. Click Open to see the page as others will.
The page stays up to date as you write. At the top it says when Writing Studio made it from your saved paper, that it changes as you work on the paper, and that you can turn the link off at any time.
Anyone with the link can see it until you turn it off. Only the paper’s owner can create a receipt link, and you need to be signed in. If the paper hasn’t backed up to your account yet, you see “This paper hasn’t been saved to your account yet. Try again in a moment.” See How saving and backup work.
Turn off a receipt link
- Open Check, then History, then Share receipt link.
- Click Turn off link.
You see “Turned off. The link no longer opens.” Anyone who tries the old link can’t see your receipt any more.
If something goes wrong
- “Couldn’t make the link. Check your connection and try again.”
- “Couldn’t turn off the link. Check your connection and try again.”
- “Couldn’t check for a link.” with Try again: Writing Studio couldn’t find out whether the paper already has a link.
Frequently asked questions
Does the receipt show my paper's text?
No. It shows where the text came from, when you worked and which AI features you used, but never the words of your paper.
Does a receipt link update as I keep writing?
Yes. The page is made from your paper as last saved, and it says when that was. Turn the link off when you no longer want it seen.
Is this a receipt for a payment?
No. A writing receipt is a record of how you wrote a paper. To see what you pay, go to Settings, then Plan and usage.
