Download a copy of all your work

Open in ChatGPT

Download every paper, your whole library, kept quotes, comments and uploaded PDFs in one zip file.

To download all your work at once, click your name at the top of the sidebar, choose Settings, go to Your data, and click Export everything. You get one zip file.

It’s a good idea before you delete your account, or any time you want your own backup.

Download the zip

  1. Click your name at the top of the sidebar and choose Settings.
  2. Go to Your data.
  3. Next to Export everything, click Export everything.
  4. Wait while it shows “Making a copy…” and its progress. Your browser then downloads the file.

The file is named writing-studio- followed by the date, for example writing-studio-2026-10-01.zip.

What’s in the zip

In the zip What it is
documents/ Every paper as a self-contained web page. Open any of them in a browser. Citations and the reference list use each paper’s own style. Archived papers are in documents/archived/.
references.bib Your whole library as BibTeX, for Zotero, Mendeley or anything else that reads it.
kept-quotes.md The quotes you kept while reading PDFs.
comments.json The comments on your papers: the passage, who said what, and when.
pdfs/ The PDFs you uploaded, named after the work.
README.txt A short guide to the zip, with how many papers, references and PDFs it holds.

Files only appear when you have something to put in them. For example, there’s no pdfs/ folder if you haven’t uploaded any PDFs.

Images, charts and diagrams are included inside each paper’s web page.

Export one paper instead

To get a single paper as a Word, PDF or LaTeX file, open it and click Export. See Export your paper.

To move just your references to another app, see Import or export BibTeX and RIS.

Frequently asked questions

Can I open the zip in Word?

The papers in the zip are web pages that open in any browser. To get a Word file of one paper, open it and use Export, then Word (.docx).

Can I bring the references into Zotero or Mendeley?

Yes. The references.bib file in the zip holds your whole library as BibTeX, which Zotero, Mendeley and most reference managers can import.

Does exporting delete anything?

No. Export everything only makes a copy. Your work stays in Writing Studio as it was.
